This is a very true story -- and very long -- but very worth it in my opinion -- i had never shared this w/ the forum cuz i nevered wanted to write so much before-- but down below someone asked why the Z gets no respect and i replied w/ my personal experience. This happened about a month after i got my Z w/ my exgirlfriends father who is a DIEHARD CHEVY guy:My ex's father only allows himself and his family to own chevy's -- seriously -- he has 2 modified 85 vettes, a modified 85 (or so) Monte Carlo SS, his wife has a berretta, and then they have like two beater metro's or something like that -- plus his son has a 95 Z28 modified. When his daughter (my X) went from her Geo Tracker (Chevy) to her honda civic -- he literally almost disowned her and told her he would never again help her work on it (now she has a BMW which is even better).....but i wanted to set the stage for how much this guy dispises Jap cars and even US competition (but likes US comp. more than Jap by far). I mean this guy almost named his daughter Chevelle for Christ' sake! So about 4 yrs ago i buy my 90TT -- its in very nice shape inside and out and is about stage III and sounded very nice! So as its parked outside his house one day i had the t-tops off and i notice him come out from his garage and kinda pretend to be working on his vette but keeps walking around my Z -- long story short -- I come out and he starts asking about it and telling me that their a nice little toy but no competition for the "Big Boys!" I just pretend to be stupid and say -- yeah i know they don't have the low end pull of a big V8, but you would be surprised what they can do once the turbo's spool up. SOOOO -- i say..."why dont u take it for a spin up the highway and see for yourself! -- unless you think you can't handle it!" Well - enough said -- he took the challenge -- got in it and started to immediately check all the functions, the driver layout, the leather, the design and so on -- then told me he had never been in a JAP sports car. I could tell he was liking what he saw. Then he starts driving it and i can feel him trying to gauge the response and playing w/ the gas a bit. So we drive up the street and he takes it pretty much easy -- then we get on the on ramp for the highway which is a very sharp turn around style so normally i keep it in 2nd and then will juice it -- so he pretty much does the same. As the on ramp begins to straighten out -- he guns it and kicks the back end out (recovered nicely) then takes her through the gears at redline and takes her up to about 135. Needless to say i watched him w/ a big SHIT EATING GRIN the entire time! So on the way back he takes the back roads to feel the handeling and response on smaller roads -- again i see him similing. Now for the fun part of the story -- as we turn onto the street my X lived on -- we have a Grand National follow us (all nice and shiny black)-- then pulls right next to us as her father parks the car and says (and i swear this was great): "Wow - very sharp Z -- what year is that 95/96 (and this was in 97)" then he looks at my x's dad since he was driving and asks: "it sounds very strong -- whats in it?" My ex's dad looks at me then at him and says -- well he owns it. The GN owner then looks at me and asks if i want to sell it -- i told him i had just bought it a month prior and wasnt in the market to sell -- he then asks if i'll take his number if i ever consider selling it -- he'll pay whatever i want! So you know i'm just smiling and feeling proud as shit of my Z and knowing that this is just eating my X's father up inside -- oh cuz did i mention both his vettes were parked in the drive way as well -- but that Grand National guy didnt even mention them! So that guy drives away and then my x's father just looks at me and says: "you know -- i think if i could get into a car like that." Made my day -- to this day none of his vettes have been able to keep up w/ me on the highway and he still loves staring at my Z. He'll never admit to anyone else that he loved it -- but he admitted it to me! Course he hasnt been in it since the remodeling, repainting, and newly aquired STG V+ or i think he' go buy one 2morrow! That's my story & I'm sticking to it! Wagz
